Raiden Tameemon, also known as Raiden Tameemon-no-Kami, was a legendary sumo wrestler who lived during the Edo period in Japan. He was born in 1767 in Edo (present-day Tokyo) and became a celebrated sumo wrestler known for his enormous size and strength.
Tameemon was known for his aggressive and powerful fighting style, earning him the nickname "Raiden" which means "thunder and lightning" in Japanese. He was said to have never lost a bout in his career, which spanned over 10 years.
In addition to his success in sumo wrestling, Tameemon was also known for his philanthropy and kindness towards the less fortunate. He was a beloved figure in Edo and his legend continues to be celebrated in Japanese folklore and popular culture.
Tameemon passed away in 1825 at the age of 58, but his legacy lives on in the hearts of sumo fans and Japanese history enthusiasts.
